DIY Inspiration: Turn A Mini Into A Maxi (Sorta)

From this photo, it looks like Miroslava Duma literally just belted some extra leather onto her dress, turning the mini skirt into a fall-appropriate maxi/pseudo-fishtail dress!

But these photos show it's actually just a slightly less-mini overskirt. But still! A maxi version of this could so be DIYable.

Outfit: Birthday Sequins

So today is my birthday woo hoo! 23 is kind of awesome and kind of boring. It feels like just the right age, exactly where I want to be for a while (maybe for the next year?) but also strangely old for how I feel. And while I don't get any more adult powers and nothing really special happened, it did give me an excuse to romp around in my new sparkly jacket and new pumps all day! Now for a long bath and cake and the girliest movie I can find.

Henley tank: Target
Jacket: from a local store, Jondie's
Jeans: old Levi's
Black patent pumps: from a local store, Blush
Necklace: gift from my father from Australia

DIY: Collar Necklace (Two Ways!)

First, remember this rad zebra print dress?? I need to find another occasion to wear it - right now it's hung as a psuedo-art piece on my wall, paired with this necklace. Though I am happy this altered black shift dress is finally getting some wear time thanks to my work dress requirements. Anyways, I can't really remember where I got the idea for these necklaces sooooo... let's just get to the DIY, shall we?!

What you need:
Thick gauge jewelry wire
Various types and thicknesses of chain
Some matching bells, bobbles, and charms
Pliers
O jump rings

What you do:
1) Cut a piece of your thick gauge wire long enough to do this:

2) Bend the ends in like this, making sure that any pointy cut ends won't dig into your skin.

3) Cut various lengths of chains in two "matching" piles.

4) Attach each "pile" to one loop of your wire collar base. I used two jump rings for more security.

5) Add a few bobbles or bells or beads randomly along some of the chains on either side. And done!

5) You can also just make one "pile" of chain and attaching both ends to your wire collar base, to make a more necklace-like look.

Super easy and super cute!!

Outfit Post: Enough Drama For A (No Longer) Mamma's Dress

When I first bought this dress from the clearanced maternity section at Target, it looked like this:

So, I did this:

So much better! It has a neckline now!

Still not quite awesome enough yet though... Ah, these should do the trick! Keep the belt, add an awesomely matchy-matchy hat and purse!

Sighhhh, but since I'm going to work now, guess this will have to do for now...

Yay for all black at work!

Dress: Target maternity (no, I am NOT pregnant - just great place to find awesome clearanced things!)
Belt and shoes: Target
Hat: Kirna Zabete for Target
Blazer: Banana Republic (thrifted)
Black Crocodile Bag: Marc Fisher (thrifted)

A Little Girl Thought I Was TSwift In Disguise Yesterday...

It made me sad to tell her I wasn't. But I don't think she believed me. In other news, look, I have new glasses!!

DIY: Blinged Out Beanie

This whole sequins and sweaters thing I talked about a couple weeks ago is becoming more true than I dare to even say.

So instead, please direct your attention to this uh-mazing photo (again by the Sartorialist - I'm obsessed, okay??) of a woman (I'll bake cookies to whoever can tell me who it is) wearing a blinged out beanie. Let me repeat that. BLINGED. OUT. BEANIE. I mean, lookit her hat! And her arm party, and the neon chunky statement necklace and the layering and ugh. I want it all. Especially that hat. Cue my most loyal life partner in crime modeling my latest DIY.

World, this is Sumo my teddy bear of the last 15 years. Sumo, this is internet fame.

What you need:
A beanie
Lots of rhinestones
Glue and/or sewing thread and needle

What you do:
1) Try on your hat and fold up the beanie "brim" however far your want. I chose this awesome F21 one with a neon interior. ¡Viva la neon!

2) Organize the rhinestones by color since you're kind of a freak for stuff like that.

3) Play around with how you'd like the rhinestones to look on your beanie.

4) Carefully glue down each piece, stretching the hat a bit. I'm probably going to go back and also stitch everything down since I don't want to be dropping rhinestones all over the place.

5) Voila! I will hopefully also be posting an alternate method of creating this look sometime soon, so stay tuned. Like always.
This is me being blogger-posed sad that this is the only human-model photo I've taken of this hat, and it's nowhere near as cute as a teddy bear. In other news, I'm now accepting applications for a photographer who can do more than count to ten and flash an orange light in my face.

DIY Inspiration: Cut Out Skirt

Yep. I need to make this ASAP. Possibly the easiest upcycle/DIY/etc project ever.

Though this model looks way less than enthusiastic about it than I am...

P.S. I've been having some issues getting a couple other posts up, but I've got a couple really awesome DIY's on the way once I figure it all out! Sorry for the silence!
