DIY: Blinged Out Beanie

This whole sequins and sweaters thing I talked about a couple weeks ago is becoming more true than I dare to even say.

So instead, please direct your attention to this uh-mazing photo (again by the Sartorialist - I'm obsessed, okay??) of a woman (I'll bake cookies to whoever can tell me who it is) wearing a blinged out beanie. Let me repeat that. BLINGED. OUT. BEANIE. I mean, lookit her hat! And her arm party, and the neon chunky statement necklace and the layering and ugh. I want it all. Especially that hat. Cue my most loyal life partner in crime modeling my latest DIY.

World, this is Sumo my teddy bear of the last 15 years. Sumo, this is internet fame.

What you need:
A beanie
Lots of rhinestones
Glue and/or sewing thread and needle

What you do:
1) Try on your hat and fold up the beanie "brim" however far your want. I chose this awesome F21 one with a neon interior. ¡Viva la neon!

2) Organize the rhinestones by color since you're kind of a freak for stuff like that.

3) Play around with how you'd like the rhinestones to look on your beanie.

4) Carefully glue down each piece, stretching the hat a bit. I'm probably going to go back and also stitch everything down since I don't want to be dropping rhinestones all over the place.

5) Voila! I will hopefully also be posting an alternate method of creating this look sometime soon, so stay tuned. Like always.
This is me being blogger-posed sad that this is the only human-model photo I've taken of this hat, and it's nowhere near as cute as a teddy bear. In other news, I'm now accepting applications for a photographer who can do more than count to ten and flash an orange light in my face.

DIY Inspiration: Maxi Wrap Skirt

The Sartorialist, like always, totally delivered a few days ago with this gorgeous monochromatic outfit. Her skirt immediately caught my eye. It would be so easy to recreate using a couple yards of jersey knit material, since it looks just like a tied sarong wrap. And I just adore that it's a total reversal of the high(in the front)-low(in the back) skirts we've seen all summer - makes it look so cozy!! Stay tuned...

Stream of Consciousness On Zara

I stumbled across the Zara TRF September Lookbook via BecauseImAddicted and I love love love it. Largely because of just this first image:

First thought to cross my mind: HOLY MOLY I cannot wait until I can start wearing beanies again, how perfect is that deep maroon?? Also, those boots and that coat and that simple shift dress - soooo good! Add some tights and you've got my perfect winter outfit. (See: Canada)

Second image: hmm, that'd be super easy to DIY. Just take a regular chambray shirt and bleach the crap out of everything but the shoulder piece.

Third image: I TOTALLY have that jacket, except different (mine's leather with black sequins, but the concept is the same). I need to wear it like this ASAP.

The rest of them: yep, toootally wouldn't mind wearing that.

Fall Style Report: Cozy, With A Chance Of Sequins

In line with my recent obsession with all things soft and warm and cozy (cue Sheldon's infamous kitty song), I've found that most fall fashions I've been seeing have a bit of something extra - sparkle! Whether it's sequined patches on a chunky knit sweater, an ultra-glittery tank dress worn underneath an oversized cardigan, or just some sparkly accessories paired with an otherwise warm fall look, I'm obsessed.

And WhoWhatWear agrees with me, according to their Fall 2012 Trend Guide!

not technically fallwear - more like a transition outfit, but still!

I'm already in the mood for crisp fall nights, sweaters, tall boots, and cozy scarves. Never thought I'd be drawing style inspiration from the infamous Miley Cyrus, but here we are with this just perfect fall sweater with embellished shoulders. Some chains, some studs, and maybe a patch and you've got yourself some celeb-inspired fall-wear!
